(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the OPP have arrested and charged a driver after a motor vehicle collision led to an impaired operation investigation.
On October 26, 2024, just before 6:00 pm, officers were dispatched to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Forbes Road and Old Barrie Road in the Township of Oro-Medonte. Upon arriving, witnesses informed officers that one driver had fled the area on foot. The Central Region Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit assisted in locating the driver approximately 1.5 km away from the scene of the collision. Three of the passengers in the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
As a result of the investigation, Ryan O’HARA, 27, of Barrie has been charged with:
· Operation while Impaired (CC)
· Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) (CC)
· Fail to Remain (HTA)
· Careless Driving (HTA)
· Fail to Surrender Licence (HTA)
· Fail to Surrender Insurance (CAIA)
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia at a later date. Their driver’s licence was suspended 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for 7 days.
