(HENDRIE TOWNSHIP, ON) – Police arrested and charged one person after a report of a theft of a vehicle.
On November 24, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of a motor vehicle on Hendrie Township Road, Hendrie Township.
The owner of the vehicle was transporting two individuals in the vehicle, when one of the individuals branded an edge weapon and demanded the owner to exit the vehicle. A struggle occurred and the owner was able to escape the incident without any injuries and contacted the police.
As a result of the investigation, Wesley NESHKIWE, 37 years-of-age, from Wikwemikong Unceded Reserved First Nation, was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery
- Theft over $ 5,000
- Assault
The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on January 8, 2025, in Sudbury.
The OPP would like to advise the public, that this was an isolated event and there are no safety concerns, an arrest warrant has been issued for the other individual involved.
