Nigel TOULOUSE – Aggravated Assault, Breach

(ESPANOLA, ON) – The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating an incident that resulted in serious injuries in Sagamok Anishinawbek First Nation.

On Thursday, March 26, 2026, at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers with the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) responded to a call in Sagamok Anishinawbek First Nation. Upon arrival, officers located an individual with life-threatening injuries. The individual was transported to hospital, where they remain.

As a result of the investigation, Nigel TOULOUSE, 32 years old from Sagamok Anishnawbek, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Aggravated assault, section 268
  • Failure to comply with release order, section 145(5)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Police believe this is an isolated incident with no broader risk to public safety.

The Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit and APS are continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
