(BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION, ON) – Two individuals are facing criminal charges after their vehicle was stopped by police.
On October 10, 2024, at approximately 12:27 p.m., Batchewana First Nation Police observed a motor vehicle on Gran Street, driven by an individual known to be on conditions to remain outside Batchewana First Nation. A traffic stop was initiated, and two individuals were located inside the vehicle. A search of the occupants and the vehicle yielded over 16 grams of suspected Fentanyl, over 23 grams of suspected Cocaine and approximately 2 grams of suspected Methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $5,000.00.
As a result, the driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Nelson SOLOMON, from Garden River First Nation, was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while prohibited
- Driving while under suspension
- Possession of Schedule I substance for trafficking – Fentanyl
- Possession of Schedule I substance – Cocaine
- Possession of Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine
- Failure to comply with undertaking – three counts
- Fail to comply with probation order
The passenger of the vehicle, 44-year-old Monica MANTOVAN, from Garden River First Nation, was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of Schedule I substance – Cocaine
The accused driver was remanded into custody. The accused passenger was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 18, 2024 in Sault Ste. Marie.
