(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – A driver was arrested and charged after numerous traffic complaints were reported in Elliot Lake.
On September 28, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received numerous complaints on Paris Drive about a female driving erratically in a small grey Sport-Utility Vehicle (SUV). The complainants also reported that the girl driving looked to be high on drugs and almost hit them. Police later located the SUV at a known residence on Tokyo Crescent and the female driver was subsequently arrested. Also, in her possession was approximately 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine. The driver was later assessed by an OPP Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) and charged.
Myra SOUTHWIND, 47-years-old, from Serpent River First Nation was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – Drugs
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance -Methamphetamine
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on December 12, 2024.
The OPP would like to remind the motoring public to drive sober; this includes drug consumption as well. Impairment by drugs is a crime under the Criminal Code and drivers are subject to the same penalties as those who are charged with driving while impaired by alcohol. A charge of impairment by drugs involves all drugs, be it prescription, over-the-counter and those that are illegal.

That’s funny because the Elliot Lake police were looking into this. After I came out of a 4 day black-out. Hot spotted… I have no idea who I was with, I wasn’t driving those 4 days of my black out. I don’t even do method. Yes I struggle with addiction and I’ve gone to detox after 2 daya of clearing my head. My DOC isn’t method and I know it’s wrong to even do any sort of mode altering drugs. I’ve definitely learned my lesson. As for the police for making this so called traffic stop I’d probably be dead right now. I don’t even remember most of the time at the police station, I wasn’t even clear headed when the police let me go the next day. Whoever I was with had me dressed in clothes I’d never wear especially without panties. I didn’t even wear shorts this summer.
As for this report being posted yet baffles me. I have no faith in the police system. I believe I have been violated enough. I’m just glad Whoever drove my car for those 4 days didn’t hurt anyone, I continue to struggle with my addiction and am looking to my culture and the land to help me heal and grow. I don’t care for details on those lost days… I will walk away humbly, pay for the repairs myself and definitely watch who I surround myself.with.
I pray that humanity starts sharing space and energy for each other. Start caring for each other once again
