Murder In Wasaga Beach

(WASAGA BEACH, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has upgraded the charges against an accused from aggravated assault to second degree murder in the Town of Wasaga Beach.

On February 25, 2024, members of the Huronia West Detachment responded to a report of an unconscious individual in critical condition on Homewood Ave. On March 6, 2024, a search warrant was executed on the accused’s residence. The accused was arrested with ten charges including aggravated assault, and items were seized including weapons and cocaine.

On May 6, 2024, the victim succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased.

After further investigation, on May 8, 2024, David ZAMIDA, 46-year-old of Wasaga Beach, was charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with the following offences:

·      Second Degree Murder, section 235(1)

·      Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibited Order – Six Counts, section 117.01(1)

·      Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Four Counts, section 91(1)

·      Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, section 86(1)

·      Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition – Three Counts, section 92(2)

·      Assault – Two Counts, section 266

·      Fail to Comply Undertaking, section 145(4)

The accused was held for a bail court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on May 9, 2024.

The Huronia West Crime Unit is continuing this investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
