(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – The City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to take impaired drivers off area roads through ongoing enforcement and community‑reported concerns.
Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of death and serious injury on OPP‑patrolled highways. Officers across the municipality remain committed to detecting and removing drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both.
Below are recent enforcement results from ongoing investigations and traffic‑related incidents.
February 3, 2026 – Highway 35, Fenelon Township
At approximately 11:33 p.m., an officer conducting speed enforcement initiated a traffic stop on Highway 35. Through investigation, the driver was found to be impaired and charged.

• Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted limit
• Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

February 4, 2026 – Highway 7 at Acrevale Road, Emily Township
At approximately 4:40 p.m., officers responded to a two‑vehicle collision. No injuries were reported. Through investigation, one driver was charged.

• Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
• Failure or refusal to comply with demand
• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
February 6, 2026 – Thurstonia Road, Verulam Township
At approximately 6:47 p.m., officers attended a single‑vehicle collision where the driver had failed to remain. A wellness check was later conducted at the registered owner’s residence. Through investigation, the driver was charged.

At approximately 10:22 a.m., officers received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was located and, through investigation, the driver was charged.

At approximately 8:44 p.m., officers attended a single‑vehicle collision. The driver was uninjured. Through investigation, the driver was charged.

At approximately 4:06 p.m., officers received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver. Through investigation, the driver was charged.

At approximately 8:02 p.m., officers attended a single‑vehicle collision. The driver was uninjured. Through investigation, impaired‑driving charges were laid.
60‑year‑old male from Courtice

February 21, 2026 – Simcoe Street
At approximately 9:57 p.m., a driver was observed turning around prior to entering a RIDE program. A traffic stop was conducted, and through investigation, the driver was charged.

• Consuming liquor in unauthorized place
February 21, 2026 – Kenstone Beach Road, Verulam Township
At approximately 10:29 a.m., officers attended a single‑vehicle collision. Through investigation, the driver was charged.
