(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a driver with impaired driving offences after investigating a motor vehicle collision.
On Tuesday July 8, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Old Highway 17, West Nipissing. No injuries were reported with the driver.
Police attended the scene and located the driver walking away from the collision. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing, which the driver failed to comply with.
As a result of the investigation, Michael SHANK, 41 years-of-age, from West Nipissing, was charged with:
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Resist Peace Officer
- Fail to remain
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday August 7, 2025, in North Bay.
The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The OPP would like to remind the public that if you fail or refuse to provide a breath sample or comply with a lawful demand from police, you face the same penalties as if you were charged with impaired driving:
- Criminal charges
- Immediate licence suspension
- Vehicle impoundment
- Fines and possible jail time
