Michael Collins – Aggravated Assault

(MIDLAND, ON) – Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested an individual in connection with an assault with a weapon that occurred in Midland in November.

On Monday, November 24, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of an injured male requiring medical assistance after being assaulted with an edged weapon at a residence on Lindsay Street. Attending officers located the male victim inside the residence. The suspect had fled prior to police arrival.

Uniform officers were assisted by members of the detachment Major Crime Unit during the investigation.

On January 7, 2026, members of the detachment Community Street Crime Unit (CSU) and arrested the suspect in downtown Midland. Charged is Michael Collins, 33 years of Midland, with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Failure to Comply with a Release Order

The accused was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice and remains in custody.

Investigators would like to advise that this was an isolated incident and there was no evidence of a threat to the broader public.
