(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT HILLS, ON) -On Friday January 17, 2025, a member from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a prohibited driver while investigating an abandoned vehicle.
At approximately 10:10 am, police were notified of an abandoned vehicle in the ditch at a driveway on 9th Line West. While at scene the investigating officer received information that the white van in the ditch was registered to an individual who was a prohibited driver out of Hastings. While on route to the owner’s residence the officer was alerted by the in-car Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) for a suspended driver on grey passenger vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. Upon further investigation the grey vehicle was registered to the same owner of the abandoned van. The officer conducted a traffic stop and confirmed the driver to be the same owner of the white van in the ditch.
As a result of the investigation Kenneth MACKAY (age 63) from Hastings Ontario, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with 2 counts of Operation While Prohibited.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in February 2025. Both of the accused vehicles were towed and impounded for 45 days.
