(COCHRANE, ON) – A timely response to a traffic complaint by the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) led to an impaired driving arrest.
On Sunday, July 20, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle swerving and striking traffic cones on Third Avenue in Cochrane. The suspect vehicle was located shortly afterward in the drive-thru of a restaurant on Highway 11 West. The vehicle was stopped near by, and officers requested a breath sample using an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver refused to comply and was placed under arrest.
As a result, Joseph CORMIER, 37 years-of-age from Timmins, has been charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 9, 2025, in Cochrane. Additionally, they received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The OPP continues to encourage the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1. Every call makes a difference in keeping our roads safe.
