(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged three local residents with impaired operation-related charges following separate calls for service in Dufferin County.
On January 28, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Dufferin OPP received a complaint regarding a motor vehicle collision in which a vehicle had struck a hydro pole. Officers arrived on scene, spoke with the driver, and initiated an impaired driving investigation.
Jason JOHNSTON, a 49-year-old male from Mono, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Dangerous operation
- Driving while under suspension
- Fail to remain
- Possess unmarked cigarettes
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
On January 31, 2026, at approximately 7:40 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers received a complaint from a concerned citizen regarding a vehicle in a ditch, possibly believed to be operated by an impaired driver, in the area of 10th East Garafraxa Township. Officers searched for the vehicle and were able to locate it. Following a brief interaction with the driver, an impaired driving investigation was initiated.
Michael BARRIE, a 57-year-old male from Georgetown, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville. Their driver’s licence was suspended 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for 7 days.
