Stolen property leads to drug, weapons charges
Selling stolen property online has also led to drug and weapons charges against a Guelph man.
During the summer a Guelph man posted a kiteboard for sale on a Facebook Marketplace. Through investigation police were able to determine the kiteboard had been stolen from Toronto and obtained a search warrant for a south-end apartment unit.
Last Thursday officers executed the warrant and recovered the stolen equipment. A search of the unit also revealed quantities of fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine and cocaine with a total value of $2,700, a spring-loaded knife and bear spray.
A 31-year-old Guelph man is charged with trafficking in stolen property, two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon and several counts of possessing a weapon while prohibited. He was held for a bail hearing September 23.
Motorcyclists charged with stunt driving
A pair of motorcyclists should get used to walking after they were taken off the road for racing through Guelph Tuesday evening.
Approximately 6:20 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Traffic Services Unit was patrolling on Stone Road West when he observed two motorcycles travelling at an excessive speed who appeared to be racing. The officer followed the pair southbound on the Hanlon Expressway until they stopped at a red light.
The officer exited his cruiser and was able to engage one motorcycle’s brake lever.
Both motorcycles also had their rear licence plates attached to hinges, allowing the licence plates to be tucked under the bodywork so they would not be visible from the rear.
A 22-year-old man from Cambridge and 20-year-old woman from Woodbridge are charged with stunt driving and driving with obstructed licence plates. Both had their licences suspended for 30 days and their bikes impounded for 14 days.
A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points.

A Guelph man is charged with careless driving after a collision Tuesday morning which saw his SUV crushed by a dump truck.
Just after 11 a.m. emergency services were called to a collision at Victoria Road South and Arkell Road. Investigation revealed an eastbound SUV entered the intersection on a red light and was struck by a northbound dump truck.
The impact caused both vehicles to leave the road and come to rest in a ditch. Debris from the collision struck a third vehicle, damaging the windshield.
Remarkably only very minor injuries were reported with neither of the occupants requiring medical assistance.
A 40-year-old Guelph man is charged with careless driving and failing to stop at a red light.
