Woman arrested twice for robbery
A Guelph woman faces two robbery charges following separate incidents on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
At 2:30 p.m. Tuesday police were called to a business on Speedvale Avenue East near Stevenson Street North. A staff member had observed a woman concealing items in her purse and confronted her. The woman punched the employee in the face and fled the business.
Officers were en route when another nearby business reported the same suspect had just stolen from there. A 39-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for robbery, theft under $5,000, possessing stolen property and failing to comply with an undertaking.
She was held for a bail hearing and released Wednesday.
Just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday, police were called to a business on Silvercreek Parkway North. A loss prevention employee saw a woman removing a gift bag from a shelf and filling it with items from the store.
As she attempted to leave without paying, the employee confronted her but the woman threatened to assault the employee and left the store. She was located downtown several hours later and arrested for another count of robbery. She was held for another bail hearing Friday.
Target practice leads to criminal charges
A Guelph man faces weapons charges after he was located Wednesday morning shooting a bow and arrow near the downtown.
Just after 11:30 a.m. police received a call from a concerned citizen about someone with a bow and arrow in a vacant lot on Surrey Street East. Officers arrived and located a man with a homemade bow and several arrows. He explained he was shooting at wooden targets.
Investigation revealed the man is on two separate probation orders including conditions not to possess weapons. He was placed under arrest and a search revealed a small amount of suspected crystal methamphetamine.
A 30-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing a controlled substance and four counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court January 28.
Home entered overnight
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a home near downtown was entered overnight while the residents slept.
On Thursday police received a call from a resident of Huron Street, who reported property including two phones, car keys, a jacket and two debit cards had been stolen sometime overnight.
The two debit cards were later used to make several purchases downtown. A suspect was caught on video wearing the stolen jacket while using the cards.

On November 21, a male in his 80s reported had received a call supposedly from his bank, advising his debit card had been compromised. The caller said a courier would attend the victim’s residence to collect the debit card and provided his PIN number.
A man attended later the same day and was given the debit card, which was subsequently used to make approximately $4,000 in purchases. Police believe the male in the photographs has information relevant to the investigation.
