Teen arrested for spitting on officer

A teenaged girl was arrested Tuesday night for spitting on a police officer during a disturbance in the east end.

Approximately 9 p.m. Guelph Bylaw Enforcement officers attended the area of Auden Road and Eastview Road for a report of several people playing loud music outside. Guelph Police were asked to attend after one of the youths threatened Bylaw officers with a glass bottle.

Police officers arrived and observed a girl hiding behind a vehicle. When they approached she swore at them and spat at one officer, striking his arm.

A 15-year-old Guelph girl was arrested for assaulting a police officer. Investigation revealed she was also wanted for assault on an unrelated matter. She was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.

Damage to downtown church

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after damage was done to a downtown church.

Just after 9 a.m. Tuesday, the church’s caretaker called police to report the damage. Metal railings had been damaged, with one pulled completely off its mount and another badly bent. As well a thick glass pane had been struck with something and will likely need to be replaced. The damage estimate is not known.

The damage was done sometime between Saturday and Monday.

Brand-new e-bike stolen from garage

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a brand-new e-bike was stolen from the garage of a north-end home.

On Friday, a resident near Speedvale Avenue West and Edinburgh Road North reported his detached garage was twice entered overnight. An orange Slane Santiago e-bike purchased 11 days earlier was stolen, as well as a laptop and bicycle accessories with a total value of nearly $3,900.

The suspect was caught on security video. He was described as a white male, 6’2” with a thin build and short brown hair and wearing a black sweater, black shorts with red boxers underneath, black shoes and a maroon backpack with fluorescent stripes on the pocket.
