(OTTAWA, ON) – Police have conducted a joint initiative in the Ottawa area, to help promote safer roads following several fatal collisions over the August long weekend.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD), members of the Ottawa OPP Detachment, OPP Aviation Services and Ottawa Police Service had an increased presence along Highway 417 and other roads on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
In one incident, an individual from Ottawa faces multiple charges after failing to stop for police. Shortly after 11:30 p.m. OPP observed a motorcycle travelling at high speeds on Highway 417 westbound, near Moodie. The motorcycle was travelling at nearly 150-km/h. When officers attempted to stop the motorcycle, the rider fled at higher speeds. With the assistance of an OPP helicopter, officers were able to track the motorcycle and driver to an address on Preston Street where an arrest was made.
