GPS Gets 2 More Impaired Drivers Off The Road

Two motorists were taken off the road for impaired driving in separate incidents on Monday.

Just after 2 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop at Nottingham Street and Glasgow Street South. He noted a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath, as well as obvious signs of impairment. After failing a roadside breath test she was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system.

A 36-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving and novice driver having alcohol in her system.

Just before 6:30 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Traffic Services Unit was patrolling in the area of Woodlawn Road East and Victoria Road North when he observed a vehicle being driven erratically, including mounting the curb.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver arrested after registering a fail on a roadside breath test. He was transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 66-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving.

Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
