Two impaired arrests
Two men were arrested for impaired driving in separate incidents on the weekend.
Approximately 1:30 p.m. Saturday police were called about an intoxicated man at a children’s baseball tournament on York Road. Witnesses reported the man parked his car nearby and was observed stumbling and walking into another vehicle. Officers arrived and spoke to the man, who was showing clear signs of impairment.
He was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition determined his ability to drive was impaired by drugs.
A 42-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving.
Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, a member of Guelph Police Traffic Services was driving on Wellington Street West when he clocked a car travelling 82 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The car was pulled over and the officer noted a strong odour of freshly applied cologne while speaking to the driver, who had glossy bloodshot eyes.
After failing a roadside breath test the man was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 24-year-old Kitchener man is charged with impaired driving, speeding, driving without insurance and being a novice driver with alcohol in his system.
Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.
