Deceased Driver Found In Lake

(KILLALOE, HAGARTY AND RICHARDS TWP, ON) – An 80-year-old man from Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township is deceased after the Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) he was driving broke through the ice and sank in Round Lake.

On the afternoon of February 24, 2025, at approximately 1:15 p.m. the individual was reported to police as being overdue after going out on his UTV that morning. Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment and Renfrew County Paramedics responded and found UTV tracks leading to an opening in the ice.

The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) were engaged and at approximately 6:00 p.m. the USRU recovered the body from Round Lake. 

The investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death which is believed to be drowning. Foul play is not suspected.
