(KAPUSKASING, ON) – A traffic stop by the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in impaired driving charges and multiple other offences.
On December 16, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Byng Avenue in Kapuskasing. During their interaction with the driver, officers determined the individual had consumed an intoxicating substance. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing OPP detachment for further testing.
During a search incident to arrest, officers located a small quantity of suspected cocaine.
As a result, Jessy BEAUVAIS, 21 years of age of Hearst, has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired – drugs
· Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration
· Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
· Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
· Drive motor vehicle – no licence
· Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
· Fail to notify change of address
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on February 3, 2025, in Kapuskasing. In addition, the accused received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
