82 Year Old Snowmobiler Found Deceased

(TEMAGAMI, ON) – One person has died after the snowmobile they were riding went through the ice on Lake Temagami.

On January 6, 2025, at approximately 4:15 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with members of the Bear Island Police Service, responded to an incident of a missing snowmobiler after the rider failed to return home.

Officers assisted by OPP Aviation Services, OPP Northeast Emergency Response Team (ERT) as well OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) began the search.

On January 7, 2025, the 82-year-old person from Temagami was located deceased. The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-FPS).

OPP reminds anglers and outdoor enthusiast to carefully evaluate ice conditions before heading out onto the ice as conditions can change rapidly.
