10 Year-Old Student Run Down After Getting Off Bus

(LAURENTIAN HILLS TWP., ON) – A child has suffered minor injuries after being hit by a car on Highway 17 in the Rolphton area, west of Deep River.

On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the scene. It was learned that a 10-year-old child had just gotten off a westbound school bus and was crossing the road when the eastbound car failed to stop and stuck the child. The bus had its red flashing lights and stop arm activated.

The child was transported to hospital by Renfrew County Paramedics.

One person was arrested at the scene.

A 29-year-old man from Dorval, Quebec has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

·        Careless driving causing bodily harm

·        Failing to stop for a school bus with its lights activated

The driver was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on December 15, 2025.

The OPP encourages all drivers to keep their eyes on the road ahead and be especially alert to school buses which are making frequent stops. Thankfully this child was not seriously hurt, but failing to stop for a stopped school bus can be deadly.
