Fraud Arrest and Secure Load Reminder
The Kawartha Lakes Police Service has arrested and charged a 33-year-old Scarborough male following an attempted fraud at a financial institution in Lindsay.
On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., employees of a bank located on Kent Street West contacted the Kawartha Lakes Police Service after becoming suspicious of identification being presented by an individual attempting to open a bank account.
Members of the Uniform Branch attended the bank and conducted an investigation. Officers determined the identification being used was fraudulent and were able to identify the individual. The 33-year-old male was arrested at the scene without incident.
The accused was held in custody and is set to attend court for a bail hearing.
The Kawartha Lakes Police Service would like to thank the bank employees for their vigilance and quick action in reporting the suspicious activity. Their attentiveness helped prevent this alleged fraud.

As students prepare to return to college and university, the Kawartha Lakes Police Service is also reminding motorists to ensure all loads are properly secured before travelling.
Whether transporting belongings in a trailer, on a roof rack, or in the bed of a pickup truck, drivers are responsible for ensuring their cargo is properly secured in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act. Unsecured loads can shift, fall onto the roadway, and create significant hazards for other motorists.
Motorists are encouraged to:
- Use appropriate straps, ropes, or tie-downs to secure cargo
- Ensure loads are balanced and covered when required
- Avoid overloading vehicles and trailers
- Inspect and recheck loads during longer trips
- Remove any loose items that could become airborne while travelling
