(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – The City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to take impaired drivers off our roadways through ongoing enforcement and community‑reported concerns.
Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of death and serious injury on OPP‑patrolled highways. Officers across the municipality remain committed to detecting and removing drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both.
On Sunday, March 22, 2026, at approximately 12:05 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving 2 vehicles at the intersection of Glenarm Road and Simcoe Street. Through investigation officers charged a driver with impaired driving offences. Those involved were transported to a local area hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.
Obada IBRAHIM, 46-year-old of Mississauga, was charged with:
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Failure or refusal to comply with demand
– Disobey Stop Sign – fail to stop
– Careless Driving
– Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
– Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor
Ibrahim was given a seven‑day vehicle impoundment, a 90‑day driver’s licence suspension, and a future court date.
On Monday, March 23, 2026, at approximately 3:52 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop following a notification by the Automatic Licence Plate Reader (A.L.P.R.) on Colborne Street, Fenelon Falls. Through investigation officers charged a driver with impaired driving offences.
Douglas BURMASTER, 65-year-old of Fenelon Falls, was charged with:
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
– Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
– Fail to surrender Insurance Card
Burmaster was given a seven‑day vehicle impoundment, a 90‑day driver’s licence suspension, and a future court date.
