North Huron Man Facing 10 More Sexual Assault Charges – Access Gained Through Wingham Hospital And Scouts

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – The Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigations Unit has laid an additional 10 charges against a North Huron man in relation to a number of sexual assaults that took place between 1976 and 2001. The latest charges stem from incidents that took place against three victims that were between the ages of 9 and 17.

The accused was able to gain access to the victims through his employment at the Wingham & District Hospital and through his volunteer work as a Scout Leader with the 1st Wingham Scout Troop.

As a result of further investigation, Martin CRETIER, 71 years of age from North Huron, is facing the following, additional charges:

Two counts of Indecent Assault, contrary to section 156 of the Criminal Code

One count of Indecent Assault, contrary to section 149 (1) of the Criminal Code

Three counts of Gross Indecency, contrary to section 157 of the Criminal Code

Three counts of Sexual Assault, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code

One count of Sexual Interference contrary to section 151 of the Criminal Code

The accused was arrested yesterday morning. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February 18, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham.

This investigation has identified 10 victims with 39 charges being laid against the accused.
