More Impaired Drivers Arrested – VANEVERY & HOULACHAN

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment has charged two individuals with drinking and driving offences over the weekend following a collision investigation on Haldimand Road 9 in Hagersville and a traffic complaint on Caithness Street West in Caledonia, Haldimand County, ON.

On Sunday February 21, 2021 at 3:46 a.m., OPP were conducting patrols when they observed an abandoned motor vehicle that had collided into a ditch in the area of Haldimand Road 9 and Dry Lake Road in Hagersville.

OPP investigated and later identified the driver at the scene.

Officers detected signs of impairment and the driver was arrested.

Further investigation determined that individual had an illegal amount of alcohol in their body.

OPP has charged 53-year-old Lawrence HOULACHAN of Hagersville, Haldimand County, ON with:

  • Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

On Monday February 22, 2021 at 3:39 a.m., OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Caithness Street West in Caledonia.

OPP located the vehicle and investigated.

While speaking with the driver, signs of impairment were detected and the driver was arrested.

OPP has charged 45-year-old Michael VANEVERY of Caledonia, Haldimand County, ON with:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
  • Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

The accused individuals had their drivers licences suspended for a minimum of 90 days and their vehicles were impounded.

Both are to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.
