Spike Belt & K9 Used To Stop & Arrest Joseph CLUETT

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – One person is facing a number of charges following an incident in Municipality of North Perth.

On March 11 2021, just after 2:00 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a suspicious vehicle travelling on Line 57 in the Municipality of North Perth. The investigating officer believed the driver was wanted on an outstanding warrant. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it failed to stop, and a tire deflation device was used by an assisting officer to slow the vehicle. During the interaction, the suspect vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, drove into a police cruiser, and then ended up in a ditch on Perth Road 164. There were no injuries as a result of the collision.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, breaking into a nearby garage at a residence, where they were located with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Canine Unit.

As a result, Joseph CLUETT, 25, of Mitchell, has been charged with:

  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Break, Enter a Dwelling House With Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order – other than attend court
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (two counts)

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
