Smoking In Restaurant Ends With Arrest Of Repeat Offender

(GODERICH, ON) – If you are on probation conditions to “Keep the peace and be of good behavior” it would be wise to not smoke a cigarette inside a restaurant otherwise you are just asking for problems.

On Thursday, April 1, 2021 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a licensed restaurant in Goderich to assist with an unruly patron. Prior to police arrival officers learned a customer at the bar lit up a cigarette and began smoking inside the premise. The unruly customer was directed out of the establishment and eventually did leave the restaurant.

Upon completing some checks police determined the suspect was currently bound by conditions of a probation order to keep the peace as well as to abstain from consuming alcohol in a public place. Officers later arrested and released the suspect without incident.

Brian GIBSON, 52 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with three counts of Failing to Comply with Probation Order as well as a charge under the Smoke Free Ontario Act. The accused has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for May 10, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
