Gas Nozzle Drive Off Ends With Impaired Charge

(PERTH EAST, ON) – One person has been charged for driving while impaired after an incident on Christmas Eve in the Township of Perth East.

On December 24 2020, just before 4:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a driver that had left a gas station on Huron Road, in the Township of Perth East, after an argument with an employee. The driver had driven away while the gas pump nozzle was still in their vehicle, causing damage to the pump.

The vehicle was stopped a short distance away by a Stratford Police Service officer, where the driver was arrested for the mischief. The OPP officer continued the investigation, and while speaking with the driver, formed the opinion that the driver had consumed alcohol. A Roadside Approved Screening Device test was conducted, which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing, where two samples of breath were provided.

As a result, Jason COLLISON, 34, of Mount Hope, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Operation While Prohibited
  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 Plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.
