On February 22, 2021, at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s General Investigations Unit, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team, completed a search warrant at a residence on Avondale Avenue South in Waterloo. The warrant was in relation to a complaint about a firearm in the home. As a result of the investigation, an airsoft pistol was located inside the residence and two 18-year-old males were arrested for charges including Utter Threats, Mischief Under $5000, Assault with a Weapon and Use an Imitation Firearm in Commission of Offence. Both males were held for a bail hearing.

Waterloo Regional Police continue to investigate a robbery that occurred on February 10, 2021, in the area of King Street North in Waterloo. At approximately 4:45 p.m. a female victim was walking through the parking lot when she was approached from behind by an unknown suspect. The suspect grabbed the victim’s handbag, and as a result, the victim fell to the ground. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident. The suspect was last seen running through the parking lot and jumping the fence which leads to the area of High Street. Police are looking to identify and speak with this individual in connection to the incident. On February 21, 2021, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to the area of 143 Concession Street in Cambridge for a report of a disturbance. As a result of an altercation, a 61-year-old man was stabbed. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police are looking to locate Phillip Nicholson, 39, of no fixed address. Nicholson is wanted for aggravated assault and should be considered armed and dangerous. If seen, do not approach, but call 9-1-1. Location: MOSCRIP RD and SAMUELSON ST, CAMBRIDGE ON Canada

On February 13, 2021, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to Samuelson Street in Cambridge for reports of a single motor vehicle collision. The driver of a red Pontiac was travelling on Samuelson Street when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and strike a hydro pole. The driver, a 72-year-old Cambridge man, was transported to Cambridge Memorial Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The roadway was closed for several hours while police and Hydro were on scene. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. Location: ROSEMOUNT DR, KITCHENER, WATERLOO ON Canada

On February 13, 2021, at approximately 10 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Krug Street and East Avenue in Kitchener for a Highway Traffic Act violation. The vehicle failed to stop for police and proceeded to travel at a high rate of speed. A short distance away, the driver lost control and struck a hydro pole causing significant damage to the pole and vehicle. The driver proceeded to travel to Rosemount Drive where the vehicle became inoperable. The male occupant then fled from the vehicle. Officers engaged in a brief foot pursuit and as a result, a 40-year-old Kitchener male was arrested and charged with several drug-related and Highway Traffic-related offences. Further investigation revealed that the male was wanted on a strength of a warrant and was a suspended driver. Police seized a large quantity of Canadian currency, prescription narcotics, suspected methamphetamine, and suspected fentanyl. The male was held for a bail hearing.

On February 12, 2021, the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Traffic Services Unit arrested and charged a 27-year-old Hamilton male in connection to a Fail to Remain collision involving a Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services ambulance that occurred in Kitchener on Dec 28, 2020. The male has been charged with Dangerous Operation, Fail to Stop after Accident, and Obstruct Police.

On Monday, December 28, 2020, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to the area of King Street East at Fairview Avenue in Kitchener for a hit and run collision involving a vehicle and a Region of Waterloo Paramedic Service’s Ambulance. The Ambulance was travelling west on route to the hospital with a patient on board when it was struck by a vehicle travelling east. The impact caused damage along the driver’s side of both vehicles. The Ambulance stopped, however, the other vehicle failed to remain and was last seen travelling east toward Ottawa Street. The paramedic driving the ambulance suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in a second Ambulance. The paramedic in the back, along with the patient on board were not injured. King Street was closed to traffic until 10:30 p.m. The investigation remains ongoing by the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Traffic Unit. On February 5, 2021, Waterloo Regional Police responded to a report of a robbery at a convenience store in the area of Highland Road East and Mausser Avenue in Kitchener. A male entered the store brandishing a knife and demanded cash. The male was given an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the area. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. On February 6, 2021, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the suspect attempted to gain entry at another convenience store located in the area of Highland Road East and Glen Road in Kitchener. The male was denied entry by staff, and police were called. Officers located the male a short distance away, and he was placed under arrest. As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old Kitchener male has been charged with robbery with a weapon. The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

On Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Emergency Services responded to a serious collision in the area of Victoria Street South at Fischer Hallman Road in Kitchener. A vehicle turning left at the intersection was struck by a vehicle travelling west on Victoria Street South. Both drivers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the vehicle turning left, a 25-year-old Kitchener male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The roadway was closed until 11 p.m. while officers continued to investigate. Waterloo Regional Police are issuing a warning after responding to a suspected fatal overdose involving purple fentanyl in the area of King Street North in Waterloo, on February 1, 2021.

Between January 24, 2021, and January 31, 2021, Waterloo Regional Police have responded to 37 suspected drug overdose calls throughout the region. We want to remind the public that street drugs are unpredictable.

Drug users are reminded to use the Consumption and Treatment Services site located at 150 Duke Street West, Kitchener, or to use with a partner. If you suspect that someone is overdosing, call 911, administer Naloxone, and stay with the person until help arrives. Please note, multiple doses of Naloxone may be required. You have the power to save someone’s life. #BeAGoodSamaritan

On Sunday, January 31, 2021, at approximately 6 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to the area of King Street West and Strange Street in Kitchener for reports of a robbery. A male and female reported making arrangements using an online forum to purchase an item. When they met with the potential seller, two unknown males – one brandishing a firearm and the other a machete – robbed the victims of their personal belongings.
